(from OrlandoSentinel.com) – Meteorologist Ivan Cabrera left WESH-Channel 2 in December. He didn’t find another job until he joined CNN International in Atlanta in August. “I’m lucky,” says Cabrera, 36. “I have colleagues in the business who are still waiting for that to happen. I landed in a great place. The wait was worth it.” Of course, the wait became a reason for concern. “So much time had passed,” Cabrera says. “I thought at worst I’d go through March or April. But I had no idea that it would go so long. Everyone froze hiring essentially.” He said he passed up a couple of offers at the start of his hiatus. “They didn’t feel like the right fit,” he says. Not so CNN International. “It’s a fantastic place to work,” says the bilingual Cabrera. “I was thrilled to audition for CNN. I felt it was a validation of my ability. When I got the call they were interested, I was elated.” Cabrera signed a confidentiality agreement when he left NBC affiliate WESH. He is not discussing details today, but says he left when the Great Recession hit.…Cont….
