Original Article: What a tangled web…

As Florida News Center reported last week, Tampa’s Bay News 9 has let go anchor Leigh Moody, BHSN anchor/reporter Joe Girvan and “en Espanol” reporter Sandra Pinto. Bay News 9 claims that these personalities were let go in a cost cutting measure by owner Bright House Networks.

***NOTE*** – The portion below is not substantiated and was written from emails to FLNewsCenter.com c/o sources close to Bright House Networks.

Since those stories, we have received several emails claiming that there’s a little more to the firings. Several of those particularly mention the firing of BHSN’s Joe Girvan. Sources claim that Girvan was let go bring on newbie Brooke Bennett (who started at the end of the Summer 2009…story here). Why is this important? Bennett a three-time Olympic swimmer and gold medal winner (in Atlanta 1996) does not have a journalistic background nor on air experience. The story gets more interesting when a source said this below (info in parenthesis added by FNC):

Elliott Wiser’s (GM at Bay News 9) hubris has turned into pure insanity. Word is Joe Girvan was fired in order to make room for this “talent” (Bennett) … who, by the way, wouldn’t have a job if it weren’t for the fact Wiser’s daughter is on the swim team. **(the same Valirco swim team that Bennett has been on since her childhood)

So, interpret that quote as you see fit…and stay tuned for further information.

Original Article: Wilder out at BHSN…

Sources tell Florida News Center that reporter/anchor Roxanne Wilder is out at Bright House Sports Network. Her bio is gone from the BHSN (Bay News 9) website. However, we found it here. So far there’s no word on why Widler has departed the station or who if anyone will assume her position. Bright House Sports Network is a cable only channel for Bright House cable customers in Tampa and Orlando markets and provides sports coverage/shows/specials for Bay News 9 and Central Florida News 13. Stay tuned for further updates.

Original Article: Burn, baby, burn 2009…

For the eighth year, Tampa’s Bright House Cable news channel Bay News 9 and Orlando’s Central Florida News 13 will be offering four, commercial-free hours of a burning fire place and Christmas music on Christmas Eve (8pm-midnight). However, you don’t have to wait until Christmas Eve to enjoy this Holiday tradition, Bright House customers can watch the fireplace anytime by going to Tampa Bay OnDemand ch 340 or Central Florida OnDemand ch 300 (watch a sample here). The burning fireplace (Yule log) tradition was first started in 1966, by New York’s WPIX. Watch a history of the WPIX Yule Log and the actual vintage Yule Log via the YouTube videos below. Enjoy!

Original Article: Saturday morning funnies….

While this has NOTHING to do with FL TV (other than being broadcast on Tampa’s Bay News 9), I found this funny. Just seeing all these bongs made me laugh on this early Sat morning. The story was about a proposal to add up to a 25% tax on water pipes and similar smoking devices.
